So far there’s 7 original instrumentals in the works and one ’80s cover. Those instrumentals will be getting vocals in the near future. I’ve been experimenting with ideas for vocals. I think I do the whole vocals thing backwards. I write the music, I see how it makes me feel, then I write the lyrics.
The cover is Underpass by John Foxx. It appears to be quite inexpensive to get the mechanical license to ’80s music that was fairly obscure. Though, given that the song was released in 1980, it’s probably more of a late ’70s synth pop tune. Not sure…
I will say again that this project really did deviate quite quickly form what I thought it would be. In that, it is happy, not angry. While that may strain against my industrial roots, I have been accidentally writing happy tunes for years. So it’s letting me explore an avenue I had previously relegated to “not-rivet-enough.”
Before that freaks anyone ([U-D-R] fans) out… let me remind you that VNV is calling themselves “futurepop.” Everyone likes VNV right? One of the choruses actually gave me goosebumps with my scratch vocal track in place… nothing I have ever written has done that before.
Look for more updates soonish. I hope to start laying down vocals in the next couple of weeks and writing more new songs.
I don’t know when I will release something from this project. Once I’m happy with the material I have written, expect to see some teasers and tentative release dates, like Summer/Fall 2013 or something. Leaning towards fall at the moment.
Cut, fill, cut again…
